The CRAM Foundation has worked for more than 14 years in the conservation of the marine environment. As a result of this experience, we have been able to verify that the two principle causes of Loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) mortality are associated with surface long-line fishing and the hoisting of the turtles onboard the vessels by use of the fishing line.

With this project, Foundation CRAM proposes to apply all the knowledge acquired through years of experience in the recuperation of marine turtles and from the pilot project conducted in 2006, to the management of sustainable fishing. By designing and producing a low cost pole line-cutter, adapted to the needs of the long-line fishing fleets of our country. It will be distributed throughout the entire Mediterranean coast of Spain and will be able to be used to cut the fishing line from the boat when a turtle is caught.
