CRAM Foundation is at the present time the organization responsible to attend to all the protected marine animals that appear on any point of the Catalan coast. This means that often, the time that passes from the initial alert received until the CRAM personnel arrive at the rescue site, can be too lengthy.
However, the survival of the beached animal in the majority of cases depends on fast and effective medical attention. For this reason it is fundamental to have groups of volunteers with specialised training to realise the first contact with the animal, and to ensure that the situation is controlled until the arrive of the team from CRAM. Periodically, training days are conducted in the assistance of beached animals for all the volunteers, state security forces, and Rural Agents that are interested in collaborating with CRAM.
This training is directed principally at residents of the Catalan coastal area that at any time, could be called upon to assist with a beached marine animal.
In this way, we try to give the necessary technical knowledge, so that in any situation that involves a marine animal, the volunteers know how to act and can (with the telephone aid of CRAM personnel) become responsible for emergency action. |
